Mordovian crepes, smelt and echpochmak: spectators will discover national cuisine
From 14 till 15 July 2018 eleven food festivals will be held in World Cup host cities under the brand name of “Gastronomic map of Russia”.
Organizers believe that festivals provide an excellent opportunity for football admirers from other countries to explore the traditional products and dishes of every host region. Festival participants will represent authentic culture and gastronomy of their region or country.
“At the food festivals, football spectators will taste Mordovian crepes ‘pachat’ in Saransk, crayfish and freshwater fish dishes on the embankments in Samara and Rostov-on-Don, crispy smelt and hot buns in Saint Petersburg, aromatic sprat with Borodinsky bread and klopse in Kaliningrad, shashlick, cheburek and fried mullet in Sochi, echpochmak and festive ‘zur belesh’ in Kazan and a lot more”, — says Oleg Safonov, head of Russiatourism.
The general idea of “Gastronomic map of Russia” is to turn urban space into massive feast of modern regional cuisine. Visitors will find street food and show of merchant-peddlers, spectators picnic competition, autofair and tasting sessions of regional products, as well as masterclasses of regional cuisine by chief-cooks.
